Kerala, a state on India’s tropical Malabar Coast, has nearly 600km of Arabian Sea shoreline. It’s known for its palm-lined beaches and backwaters, a network of canals. Inland are the Western Ghats, mountains whose slopes support tea, coffee and spice plantations as well as wildlife. National parks like Eravikulam and Periyar, plus Wayanad and other sanctuaries, are home to elephants, langur monkeys and tigers

Day 1Arrival Cochin

Welcome and assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2COCHIN / MUNNAR (130 KM / 4H)

Breakfast
Visit of the city during which you will discover:
The Dutch Palace (closed on Fridays) name given following renovations carried out by the Dutch after 1663. The highlight of this palace is the fabulous murals which depict scenes from the Ramayana,Mahabharata and Puranic legends related to Shiva , Vishnu, Krishna, Kumara and Durga.
The Synagogue (closed on Fridays and Saturdays) founded in 1568, partly destroyed during the Portuguese assault of 1662. It was restored two years later by the Dutch who had become masters of the city. In the 18th century, the merchant Ezekial Rahabi had beautiful hand-painted blue earthenware tiles laid on the floor in Canton, China. We also owe him the construction of the bell tower which surmounts the building.
Continue by road to Munnar.
Arrive and check in at the hotel.

Day 3Munnar

Breakfast.
MUNNAR is located in the “Valley of Teas” and lost inland from Kerala. Surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery once known as the High Travancore Range, the city sits 1,524m above sea level.
Walk in the tea plantations.
Visit of a tea manufacturing and packaging factory. (Closed Monday)
In the evening take a walk in the market.

Day 4MUNNAR / PERIYAR (100 KM / 3H30)

Breakfast.
Continuation by road to Periyar National Park, located in the heart of the mountains. It is the most famous nature reserve in South India.
Walk in the spice plantations with the naturalist (English speaking).
Boat trip on Lake Periyar, (subject to operation). The park includes an artificial lake of 26 km², created by the British in 1895 to supply water to Madurai, and which extends to Tamil Nadu. It is home to bison, antelopes, sambars, wild boars, monkeys, semnopithecines as well as a wide variety of birds and some 750 elephants.
Walk in the old spice market in Periyar. (Remember to buy spices, they are the cheapest).

Day 5PERIYAR / KUMARAKOM (125 KM / 3H30)

Breakfast on board.
Continue to KUMARAKOM. This charming village is located on the shore of Vembanad Lake. With its beautiful mangroves, its emerald fields, its canals lined with coconut trees, its thousands of birds,Kumarakom is a true paradise for ornithologists.
Arrive and check-in at the hotel.
Night at the hotel.

Day 6 KUMARAKOM / HOUSEBOAT (35 KM / 1H)

Breakfast at the hotel.
Then departure to board the boat then boat trip on the backwaters (lagoons and canals) of Kerala through villages and rice fields. All along the coast of Kerala, sometimes sinking quite far inland, a series of lagoons, lakes, rivers and canals dictate to the inhabitants of the region a very particular lifestyle, and constitute traffic routes fascinating.
One cannot visit Kerala without spending some time navigating these waters. You will cross shallow lakes bordered by palm trees, punctuated by Chinese squares and navigate along narrow and shaded canals from where you will witness the loading of coir (coconut fiber), copra (coconut kernel stripped of its shell and desiccated ) and cashews on barges.
Lunch, dinner and night on board.

Day 7HOUSEBOAT / COCHIN (55 KM / 1H30)

Breakfast.
Disembarkation of the houseboat in continuation by road to Kochin.
Visit of the city during which you will discover:
Saint Francis Church, the oldest Indian church built by Europeans, which was built by Franciscan monks accompanying the expedition led by Pedro Alvarez Cabral.
Visit of Fort Cochin, is beautifully located between the Arabian Sea and an estuary dotted with islets. The natural harbor is bordered by graceful Chinese nets, large dispatch nets held by long sticks and maneuvered by hand.
In the evening, assisted in the Kathakali dance show.

Day 8COCHIN - Departure

Continuation by road to the airport.
Depending on the air schedule, transfer to the airport.
